Seattle has Become a Destination City for the Homeless and LawBreakers (July 2020)
I live in close proximity to several Washington State Ferry terminals. One goes from Kingston, Wa to Edmonds, WA, and the other two both go to Seattle. A loved one accidentally took the ferry to Seattle. In 2020, Seattle looks like a third world country with homeless camps in the city. Some of the camps are right as you get off the ferry. In 2020, it is a city in desperate, violent times where innocent people are being victimized under the guise of trying to show compassion to the less fortunate. This has failed.
My loved one is half a minority but looks white. I was in total fear when he texted that he was heading to Seattle. The police have been hand-tied to keep the streets safe in Seattle. I will admit that I voted for some of these politicians who are not allowing the police to keep Seattle streets safe.
I don’t understand how Seattle has become a den of drugs, addicts, and thugs when other cities in Washington like Spokane, Bellevue, etc. do not tolerate these criminal behaviors. The mayor of Seattle let these criminals take over public property creating harm to the people who live and do business in the city. These business owners and property owners in Seattle pay the taxes that pay the wages of these elected officials. They pay for the repairs and rebuilding of the property being destroyed.
I have been in tears and angered by the officers and protesters injured during this time. I support peaceful protests that do not infringe on the civil rights and the property rights of other citizens. Most of these protestors come out in the cloak of night to destroy. Most of these protestors to not even know what the protest is about.
Please, elected officials, allow the police to do their jobs. Let’s get hard on crime. That means let's get hard on crime and this includes law enforcement crime or the administration that does not hold them accountable.
If the police who did things that non-police would be accounted for, then we need to hold the law-breaking police to the same standard. We also need to hold accountable the administrators who allow officers with continual problems relieved of duty.
Understand, I do support law enforcement. However, if the guilty law enforcement officers were held accountable then the law enforcement officers who want to do their job and do it right would not have added threats to their job. I do not want to lose the protection of law enforcement.
It is time for the majority to take a stand by voting based on what the candidates have supported and their actions during this pandemic. Vote and vote wisely dear Americans. This is my country and I will vote very differently this election.
By the way, as ugly as Seattle is to drive through from ferry to freeway, my loved one made it safely since it was daytime and he was able to get out of there quickly!
